Our Mission
Dyed of Natural Causes was created with the mission to connect Body and Earth. We create one of a kind, plant dyed clothing that nourishes your skin and the soil. We use only natural fibers and organically grown natural dyes so that our clothing can embrace you like a warm hug. Your skin is all natural and your clothing should be too.
Our colors are seasonal and change with the plants that are available to us. Every piece has unique variation and the colors and prints cannot be repeated due to the natural process. Plant colors evolve over time as we wash and wear them each piece changes to reflect the individual wearer.
Traceability
Many of the flowers and dye plants are grown in our backyard organic garden. Our garden is a colorful mix of Tango Cosmos, Marigolds, Pansies, Madder Root (Rubia tinctorum), Japanese Indigo (Persicaria tinctoria), and many more to come. We also source flowers locally from our neighbors and flower markets. Our other dyes come from trusted suppliers that use responsibly sourced, organic dyes.
Who Made My Clothes?
Anna Botanica is the designer and creator of Dyed of Natural Causes. She connected to natural color through her fascination with lichen in Moab, Utah. She designed her graduate thesis collection around the concept of lichen dye and followed historical natural recipes. After working in fast fashion, she felt disconnected from the product and uninspired by the waste and pollution in the industry. Anna turned back to natural dyes as a way to reconnect with the process of making clothing and to find purpose in her work again. What started as a grounding hobby has turned into a mission to connect body with nature.
Anna has a B.F.A. in Fashion from the Savannah College of Art and Design and was mentored by Emily Smith of Lafayette 148. She has had the honor of learning from some of todayβs natural dye masters like Liz Spencer the Dogwood Dyer, Cara Marie Piazza, Justine Aldersey-Williams the Wild Dyery, and Rebecca Burgess the Founder of the Fibershed.
